Bridget is passionate about serving people and the environment. After high school she attended a few years of college while working full time in Columbus, Ohio. Although she received good grades, she was unsure of where she wanted her schooling to take her. During this time she began to feel a strong calling to follow her passion for service.
Inspired by her younger brother, an AmeriCorps Alumnus, she decided to pursue an AmeriCorps position in Dubuque, Iowa. During her service term she performed energy audits and weatherization on more than 120 homes in Dubuque and surrounding counties. Through her work she discovered how much energy is wasted due to inefficient homes and home owner behaviors. Although the energy audits were interesting, the hands on weatherization work was where she found the most enjoyment.
“The work was fun, fairly simple, and it made a reasonable impact,” Bridget says. “I had the opportunity to educate home owners about conserving energy and got them involved in weatherizing their own homes.”
In January of 2019 she moved to Washington to work with Habitat for Humanity of Snohomish County where she serves as the Construction Crew Leader. Some of her goals for the service term include establishing a weatherization program and adopting environmentally safe practices on the construction sites.
“Habitat has strong roots in the community and I am happy to be a part of it,” she says. “In a place like Washington where the need for affordable housing is especially high, I am excited to help provide families with affordable and sustainable homes.”
